Razer’s latest concept idea is a 10.1-inch gaming tablet with bundled Hydra-style controllers and the performance of PC gaming.

Unveiling the tablet during CES, Razer explained that the tablet has a 1280 x 800 (16:10 aspect ratio) resolution touchscreen display, features Intel’s third-generation Core i7 processor and boasts a three-axis gyroscope, a magnetometer and accelerometer for increased mobility.

Razer says that the tablet is running Windows 7 at CES, but will adopt a customized version of Android or perhaps Windows 8 when (and if) it comes to market.

As well as packing a powerful punch, the tablet comes with dual-joystick control, Dolby 7.1 surround sound, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0. The slate, which is the first tablet to be THX-certified, also features front and rear facing cameras.

Razer stressed that the tablet is only a prototype at this stage, but hopes to have a tablet based on the Project Fiona concept available on the market in Q4 for the rather hefty cost of $1,000.

'This first-of-its-kind PC gaming tablet with integrated dual controllers is definitely not for playing casual games about unhappy birds or zombie-killing flora,' said a Razer spokesman, in one of the more colourful statements during CES.

Razer has a fine history in the portable gaming arena, and showcased the Switchblade gaming laptop concept at last year’s show. This design was developed into the Blade laptop, with the firm expecting to take orders for the device later this month.

Should the Project Fiona make it to market, the tablet could offer considerable competition to Sony's PS Vita gaming tablet, while also potentially challenging the nature of casual and console gaming.
