dio 是重金属界像神一般的人物。 metallica 的lars 也承认DIO是影响他人生最大的人之一。 无数的重金属主唱都是因为DIO 才拿起MIC 的。
早期dio 在知己的乐队 做主唱和bass
1974-1979 在rainbow 乐队(ritchie blackmore)
在1979年Ozzy Osbourne被开除出Black Sabbath乐队以后，Ronnie James Dio曾经做过几年Sabbath的主唱。时间是1979-1982年。
1982年以后, Dio组织了以自己的名字命名的重金属乐队。他招募了一些自己曾经合作过的乐手，作为这个新乐队的成员。
Dio乐队的音乐，歌词主要还是围绕着神秘主义的内容：龙与地下城，魔法师，神话题材等等，音乐上的处理则很接近Black Sabbath，Ritchie Blackmoore's Rainbow 等等老一代重金属乐队。乐队在1983年发行第一张专辑“Holy Diver”，取得成功。后来的专辑也很精彩。
进入90年代，Ronnie James Dio参加了重组的 Black Sabbath, Dio乐队基本停止了活动，进入21世纪，dio 后来又找回了 black sabbath 那帮老头子 成立了 乐队叫 heaven and hell。
在2010年很不幸的 dio 于5月16日死于胃癌。

Korn是成立于1993年，来自贝克斯菲尔德 (加利福尼亚州)的音乐团体。擅长金属的他们，被公认为创造新金属（Nu-Metal）以及将其发扬光大的重要推手。与同时代的其他团体从1990年代至今启发了许多新金属以及另类金属的后进团体。

在Korn的第二张专辑《Life Is Peachy》中，他们已然提高了自己在金属界的影响力，更加深入钻研黑暗的旋律结构与碾磨，阴险的节奏直率地表达了地下金属的黑暗。Korn加入了足够的alternative rock（另类摇滚）的元素来构建歌曲并使其变得更容易被大众理解，他们的歌曲写作也有相当的进步。然而，乐队的主力是他们愤怒和内在的呐喊，这比他们歌的曲子更加有效的让人挂怀。他们的连复段并不一定总能够牢牢衔接，但是其吉它和主音的配合却总能深深打入人们心中。

二十世纪八十年代后期，欧美摇滚乐坛上“重金属”音乐正在鼎盛时期，而此时出现的Thrash Metal（激流金属）象一股洪流一样冲击着乐坛。这种流派的创始者就是1981年在美国洛杉矶组建的金属乐队Metallica（金属乐队）Metallica无疑是从上世纪80年代至今世界上最杰出和最有影响力的重金属乐队。乐队的一大贡献在于扩展了传统鞭笞金属的含义，从Metallica开始，复杂的编曲和大量华丽的吉他独奏也同样属于Thrash Metal。这种风格加上James Hetfield那极富冲击力的演唱，使Metallica长期处于重金属的统治地位。

恐怕Metallica乐队最被广为传唱的歌曲就是这首睡魔入侵了。1991黑色专辑是Metallica乐队的成功转型，一种在鞭挞金属音乐风格上衍生出来的更加流行更加前卫的风格诞生了。没错，Metallica乐队不同于同时期其他鞭挞金属乐队的特点就是每张专辑都力求变化力求创新！当然，虽然这是一种可贵的音乐理念，对于怀旧的歌迷来说也是褒贬不一的。
