The debuts of Tales ofVesperia (PS3), SaGa 2 (DS), and Pro Yakyuu Portable 4 (PSP) partiallyoffset the decline in Pokemon HG/SS sales this week. This kept softwaresales quite robust once again.
Summary and a Look Ahead:
Even with a big drop in Pokemon sales this week software sales remainedvery strong in the land of the rising sun because the PS3, DS and PSPall had big new releases. Pokemon SS/HG was the leading title of theweek, with sales of 515,000. However, Saga 2 (DS), Tales of Vesperia(PS3) and Powerful Pro Yakyuu 4 Portable (PSP) all saw debuts over100,000 units offsetting much of the Pokemon decline.
The other systems, Wii, X360 and PS2 had quiet weeks for software. There was only one significant Wii release – Endless Ocean 2, which hada debut in line with expectations. No software charted in thepreliminary data for the other systems.
Dragon Quest IX, after slipping below 50,000 units for the first timelast week has dropped to 29,000 units for the week. Still, the gameshould easily surpass 4m units in Japan. For the first time though,Dragon Quest IX has also showed up in the top twenty used ranking wereceive. Used sales of the game were ~30,000 this week – nearlyidentical to ‘full-price sales’. If this used figure risessignificantly in the coming weeks the game should begin to drop muchfaster than it has in recent weeks.
In preorder news, Final Fantasy XIII preorders have tripled sinceSeptember 10. The game now has about 200,000 preorders with a fewmonths left before release. Super Robot Wars Neo for Wii has crawledinto the bottom of the preorder ranking over the past few days, thefirst Wii game in the ranking since Monster Hunter 3. It will beinteresting to see how high it gets with a little over a month leftbefore it releases.
Next week is likely the last week Wii will be at its current pricepoint in Japan, so we’ll have to see what the final weekly figure isbefore we can determine how the system will perform at ~20,000 Yen.
Understanding the Japanese Preview:
Rather than saying x game for y platform sold between 20,000 and 28,000units as in the past, the preliminary data will be broken down intocharts by platform. Within these charts, there will two additionalcategories besides the rounded sales figure under ‘sales’. On the leftwill be ‘low end’ depicting the lowest amount the title likely sold forthe week, while to the right will be ‘high end’ depicting the highestamount the title likely sold for the week. As always, this data ispreliminary, and therefore, not final, but it is based on a sample. Thevarying platform market share the sample represents is why consistentsellers like Wii Fit do not always appear in the preliminary data. Sales for this report are for the week ending September 20, 2009.
Software by Platform:
Wii Software – Three Wii games charted in the preliminary data. MonsterHunter 3 sold another 10,000 units (perhaps a tiny bit more if thecontroller + game skus are still around). Wii Sports Resort came in at32,000 units, essentially flat from last week. Endless Ocean 2 (ForeverBlue 2) debuted to sales of 20,000 units. Assuming Nintendo cuts theWii price around September 27; sales next week should be about the samefor hardware and software. After the price cut, I’d imagine we’d seelifts for half a dozen or so recent ‘key Wii experiences’ as we didafter the PS3 price cut. My candidates for a lift would be Wii SportsResort, Wii Sports, Wii Play, Monster Hunter 3, Taiko Drum Master, andMario Kart Wii. Although Wii Fit is a relatively recent and huge titlein Japan, the price cut appears timed to coincide with Wii Fit Plus, soWii Fit probably won’t see a lift. Expect Wii hardware sales for theweek to remain in the 14,000 to 18,000 unit range.

PS3Software – Four PS3 games charted in the preliminary data. Tales ofVesperia came in at 237,000 units for the week, behind only Pokemonoverall. Gundam Senki fell to 20,000 units. The bargain edition of Callof Duty 4 came in at 7,000 units. Finally, Tears of Tiara Gaidenlimited edition came in at 6,000 units. Expect PS3 hardware sales tofall slightly, into the 48,000 to 58,000 unit range as the Tales bumpis essentially offset by the drop-off in initial PS3 slim demand.

PSP Software – PSP had a pretty good week for software, with six skuscharting in the preliminary data. The latest Jikkyou baseball game fromKonami debuted to slightly better figures than last year – 116,000 vs.106,000 units. Yu-Gi-Oh had a 50k+ debut in second place on PSP. Thenew Hitman and Ys games also had decent debuts. The port of 428 came inbelow the Wii and PS3 versions week one, at 13,000 units. Expect PSPhardware sales to rise into the 20,000 to 28,000 unit range this week.

实际上,真正的三坟是360,wii上并没有什么第三方一线大作,那些卖的不好的作品就算出在PS3或360上也不会有什么好结果。
